New Rochelle, NY - About fifteen members of the Iona College baseball team attended the annual Diabetes Walk at White Plains High School on October 17, 2010. The walk consisted of teams who supported a friend or family member who was affected by diabetes.  They also competed in a friendly competition to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. The event had games for children to play and free food available that was sensitive to the needs of those with Diabetes. The Gaels participated in the walk and once over, helped clean up tables, tents, and garbage.

On the same day, the rest of the team attended the Breast Cancer Awareness walk in Tarrytown. This event was especially important to the one team member in particular as his mother recently recover from her battle with breast cancer.  To show her support, she was one of the organizers of the event.  The team took part in the four and a half mile walk through the town. Throughout the four and a half miles, stations were set up with food and drinks along with tents in order to make donations to various breast cancer awareness foundations.
