New Rochelle, NY - On
Monday, November 22, 2010,
the Iona College Athletic Department participated in the college's annual
Thanksgiving Baskets Drive. Members of Iona's
21 Division I athletic teams, the athletics department administration and
members of the Iona community purchased and
assemble "baskets" to give to economically disadvantaged families to
try and spread the joy that the Thanksgiving season brings. The athletics
department contributed a total of 18 baskets. The baskets were beautifully
packaged and filled with traditional foods of Thanksgiving, including sweet
potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, apple cider and more!
Sponsored
by Campus Ministries, the Blessing Ceremony included the offering of prayers,
reflections, and songs of Catholic tradition. Immediately after the service
students and faculty loaded up the vans so the food could be delivered to
Abraham House, Hope Community Services, and Greyston Child and Youth Services.
The Thanksgiving Drive was once again a huge success. With both project
organizers and student-athletes alike thrilled with the overall outcome of
their efforts, it was truly something special to be involved in.
