Iona Hosts MAAC Basketball Doubleheader on February 1 on MSG Network

Edison, N.J. - Iona College's Hynes Athletics Center will be the site for the next televised MAAC men's and women's basketball doubleheader this season on Monday, February 1. Both games will air on the MSG Network.

The first game of the twin bill will feature a match-up between the women's programs from Fairfield University and Iona at 5:00 p.m. Fairfield, 4-5 in the MAAC, is led by senior forward Stephanie Geehan, who is registering 13.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, and sophomore guard Desiree Pina, who is averaging 12.6 points and 3.9 caroms a night for the Stags. Iona, 8-1 in the MAAC, is led by senior guard Thazina Cook, who is contributing 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, and senior center Anna McLean, who is posting 11.8 points and 8.4 rebounds an outing for the Gaels.

Game two has the Canisius College men against Iona for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Canisius, 6-5 in the MAAC, is led by senior guard Frank Turner, who is averaging 17.2 points and 5.1 assists an outing, and junior guard Julius Coles, who is netting 15.4 points and 5.0 rebounds a night for the Griffs. Iona, 8-3 in the MAAC, is led by sophomore guard Scott Machado, who is averaging 12.1 points and 4.2 assists an outing, and freshman guard Kyle Smyth, who is netting 8.8 points and pulling down 3.3 boards a night for the Gaels.
