MAAC Sports
Edison, NJ - Siena College's Brent Herbst and VMI's Sean McCoy were named finalists for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as
an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas
of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition.
Herbst and McCoy are just two of five goalkeepers selected to the list of finalists.
Herbst has a 2.94 cumulative GPA in American Studies and was a MAAC
All-Academic Team selection in 2008. He ranked second in the nation in
GAA (6.34) last season and fourth in save percentage (.617). Herbst led
the Saints to their first MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth
last season. He posted a 3.06 GAA and a .786 save percentage in the
MAAC Tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player.
McCoy is one of six candidates on the list to hold a GPA of 3.5 or better, and is VMI’s first lacrosse player chosen as a candidate for the award. The two-year team captain currently has a 3.77 GPA in biology, and hopes to one day commission into the Armed Forces to serve as a doctor.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School™,
the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and
encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a
positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 20 current candidates for the 2010 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award will be narrowed to 10 via a selection panel midway through the 2010 regular season, and those 10 will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed to media, coaches and fans, who will combine to select the eventual winner. That individual will be announced at the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held in Baltimore May 29-31.
