Siena Chosen as Favorites in MAAC Men's Lacrosse League

Edison, NJ – The Siena College Saints were selected as the team to beat in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse League in 2010, according to the league’s nine head coaches.
Siena, the defending MAAC Champions, went 12-6 overall and 8-0 in the MAAC in 2009. The Saints will return six starters from a year ago, including top scorers Bryan Neufeld and Jordan Loftus, and All-American goalie Brent Herbst.
Canisius College’s Adam Jones was named the 2010 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Jones, a native of Owen Sound, Ontario, is a two-time All-MAAC First Team selection. Last season, he was first in the conference in both points per game (3.17) and goals per game (2.75). In addition, Jones was first in the nation among midfielders in goals per game.
Manhattan College, the 2009 MAAC Championship runners-up, finished second in the poll with 69 points. Canisius was third with 60 points. Mount St. Mary’s was fourth with 51 points, followed by Marist (49), Saint Joseph’s (40), VMI (31), Detroit (18) and Wagner (14).
The preseason All-MAAC team consists of Canisius’ Nick LoCoco, Manhattan’s James Synowiez, and Siena’s Neufeld at attack. The midfielders are Jones, Siena’s Shaun Dunn, and VMI’s Tim Moran. Canisius’ Matt Barkas, Manhattan’s Steve Sternberg, and Mount St. Mary’s Matt Nealis were selected as the defensemen. Siena’s Herbst was chosen as the goalkeeper.
