MAAC Player of the Week

RYAN THOMPSON, RIDER
Senior, Guard, 6-6, 200, Mt Laurel, N.J./Lenape

Thompson, a senior guard, averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in a 1-1 week for the Broncs. In the win over Niagara, he scored 31 points, tying his career high, including six points in the final 66 seconds of the contests. Against Fairfield, Thompson had 18 points, three assists and four rebounds in 36 minutes of action. For the week, he shot 54.2 percent from the field, 80 percent from behind the arc and 84.2 percent from the charity stripe.

 


MAAC Rookie of the Week

DEREK NEEDHAM, FAIRFIELD
Freshman, Guard, 5-11, 180, Dalton, Ill./De La Salle Institute

Needham, a freshman guard, averaged 23 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Stags, scoring 26 points at Siena and following up with 20 points in an overtime win against Rider. He played in all 85 minutes in the two games, including a career-high 45 minutes against Rider. Needham made six three pointers in the two games, shooting 46 percent from behind the arc and 48 percent overall. He also dished out five assists in the two games.
