Manhattan College Wins 2010 MAAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships

New York, N.Y. - Manhattan College won both the men's and women's titles in the 2010 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory.
Manhattan College claimed its 14th straight MAAC Men's Indoor Track and Field crown with 153 points, while the Lady Jaspers posted a score of 228 to earn their 13th title in 14 years.
Manhattan's Albert Johnson was named the Men's Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events after winning the men's triple jump (10.06m) and finishing second in the long jump (7.16m). Rider University's Daequan Kim was named the Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events. Kim took top honors in the 55 meter dash (6.46) and 200 meter dash (21.91). He also ran on Rider's 4x400 relay that finished first in a time of 3:19.81.
Manhattan's Malin Marmbrandt was selected as the Women's Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events for the second straight year. Marmbrandt won the long jump (5.77m) and the triple jump (12.17m). She also finished third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.36 seconds. Manhattan's Ashley Bowman was named the Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events. Bowman won the 55-meter dash in 7.24 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 24.92 seconds.
Two MAAC Indoor Track Championship records were reset this evening. Iona's Heidi Gregson set a new record in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.70. The old record was set in 2000 by Manhattan's Lisa Edwards, who finished in a time of 2:13.63. The Iona women's distance medley relay also set a meet record, finishing the event in 12:03.53. The team was made up of Kristen Peluso, Gregson, Leonie Smith and Anna Jorgensen. The old record was set by Iona in 2006 (12:15.04).
Rider head coach Bob Hamer was named the 2010 MAAC Indoor Track Men's Coach of the Year after leading the Broncs to a second-place finish. Manhattan head coach Dan Mecca was named the 2010 MAAC Indoor Track Women's Coach of the Year.
