Marist Men, Fairfield Women Slated to Win Tennis Titles

Edison, NJ - The Marist College men's tennis team and the Fairfield University women's team were chosen as favorites to win the MAAC Championship in 2010, according to a vote by the league's respective head coaches.

The Marist men, who have won two consecutive MAAC titles, topped the poll with 48 points. The Red Foxes return every player from the team that defeated Fairfield in last year's MAAC Championship match. Two-time MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Performer Loic Sessagesimi leads the way for 11th-year head coach Tim Smith. Also returning are All-MAAC selections Christian Coley, Landon Greene, Nicolas Pisecky, Marcus von Nordheim, Matt Himmelsbach and Rhys Hobbs .

Fairfield finished second in the poll with 43 points and Niagara was third with 32. Saint Peter's totaled 27 points to finish fourth, followed by Loyola (21), Siena (17), and Rider (8).

The Fairfield women, last year's MAAC Champions, received 63 points in the poll. Head Coach Ed Paige, a two-time MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Coach of the Year, led the Stags to a 6-1 conference mark a year ago and a victory over Niagara in the title match. He returns the 2009 Co-Player of the Year in Paulina Rys, as well as All-MAAC selections Kristen Liu, Dana Postupack, Gretchen Amberg, and Michaela Cerrone .

Marist was second in the women's poll with 49 points, followed by Niagara with 46. Loyola finished fourth with 37, while Manhattan was fifth with 36. Siena tallied 29 points to finish sixth, followed by Saint Peter's (15) and Rider (13).

The 2010 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York from April 23-25.
