Johnson, a senior center, averaged 26.0 points and 17.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Stags, including an impressive 26 points and career-high 23 rebounds in an overtime win against Niagara. He was 12 of 15 from the line against the Purple Eagles, including four of four in overtime. In the Iona game, Johnson netted a personal-best 28 points with 12 rebounds while shooting 78 percent from the field (11 of 14) and 75 percent from the line (6 of 8). For the week, he shot 65 percent from the floor and 78 percent from the line with six blocks in 69 minutes of work.
MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
DEREK NEEDHAM, FAIRFIELD
Freshman, Guard, 5-11, 180, Dolton, Ill./De La Salle Institute
Needham, a freshman guard, averaged 13.5 points with 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Stags. He started off with 15 points and three assists against Iona, shooting 56 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the line. Against Niagara, Needham netted 12 points with four assists and five rebounds before fouling out in overtime.
