2010 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Bracket
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's basketball team is the
#12 seed in the Memphis Regional of the 2010 NCAA Women's Basketball
Championship, as announced Monday night on ESPN. The Red Foxes will take
on fifth-seeded Georgetown Saturday night at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley,
Calif.
This is Marist's fifth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA
Tournament, and the third time in four years that the Red Foxes will go
to California to play in the NCAA Tournament. Marist defeated Ohio State
and Middle Tennessee State at Stanford in 2007 to reach the Sweet 16,
and took on Virginia at Southern California in 2009. The Red Foxes enter
the 2010 NCAA Tournament with a 26-7 record after winning its
fifth-consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament
Championship on March 7.
The Red Foxes and Georgetown have met once before. The Hoyas beat
Marist 74-50 on Nov. 24, 2000 at the Moran Realty Classic in Chicago,
Ill. Georgetown enters the tournament with a 25-6 record, finishing tied
for second in the Big East at 13-3 with West Virginia. The Hoyas lost
in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals to Rutgers 63-56 in double
overtime. Freshman guard Sugar Rodgers leads Georgetown in scoring,
averaging 18.2 points per game. Rodgers was this season's Big East
Freshman of the Year and a First-Team All-Big East selection. Junior
Monica McNutt also averages double-figures scoring, putting up 11.4
points per game while shooting 35.3% from the three-point line. McNutt
was a Second-Team All-Big East pick.
Saturday's game will be televised on ESPN2 at 8:21 p.m. eastern.
