Ferrante, Ruiz Selected as MAAC Tennis Players of the Week

Edison, NJ - Fairfield's Rob Ferrante, Jr. and Alyssa Ruiz were named the MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively.
Ferrante, a junior from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., went 2-0 in singles and split doubles to help the Stags to a 1-1 week. In the MAAC opener at Siena in which the Stags won 7-0, Ferrante picked up a pair of victories on the day. At third singles, he downed Dylan Roberts 6-2, 6-3. At second doubles, Ferrante and partner Ryan Berthod blanked the Godbole brothers, 8-0. Against Brown, Ferrante outlasted Mike Hill, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, at third singles, but was edged by Brown, 8-3, at first doubles.
Ruiz, a junior from Glen Head, N.Y., went undefeated at fifth singles to help the Stags to a 2-1 week. Ruiz began the week by topping UConn's Abby McKeon, 6-4, 1-6, 10-5. In the Stags' 7-0 victory at Siena, she downed Brittany Filip 6-1, 6-4. Ruiz secured the match-winning point for the Stags against Sacred Heart as she topped Julianne Kasinow, 6-4, 6-4. Ruiz has been victorious in her last four matches and is 8-3 in duals and 12-5 overall this season.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place from April 23rd through April 25th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
