NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara Athletics Department and Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin has announced the hiring of Steve Latimer as head women's golf coach.

Latimer brings a wealth of experience to Niagara, spending over 20 years playing, teaching, caddying, and officiating golf all over the country. This Class A PGA Professional is the current Director of Instruction at Niagara Falls Country Club, the home course for Niagara Golf.

"Being able to start women’s golf at Niagara is a great opportunity," Latimer explained. "I am very excited to build a program here at Niagara. The team has been very receptive to my instruction and leadership."

Latimer has worked in traditional golf club operations, as well as retail and teaching facilities before starting at NFCC. He was the first African-American Head Golf Professional in the Western New York PGA Section at Old Hickory GC in Livonia. He also spent a nine-year stint as the First Assistant Professional at Stafford Country Club.

Latimer’s playing career includes winning the 2007 Stafford Pro-Am, and 25 Western NYPGA Assistant Association events. He won the 2008 Mt. Saint Mary’s Pro-Am, and was runner-up in the 2008 WNYPGA Match Play Championship and the 1996 Western New York Open.

He has also been recognized with the PGA Presidents Choice Award the past four years.

Latimer and the women's golf team open the spring portion of the schedule April 10 in Loretta, Pa.
