Michalisin, Sullivan Named MAAC Tennis Players of the Week

Edison, NJ – Fairfield’s Joe Michalisin and Meghan Sullivan were named the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, respectively.
Michalisin, a sophomore from Melville, New York, helped the Stags go 3-0 on the week by going a combined 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Michalisin lost just five set points. He began the week by topping Fordham's Kevin Maloney, 6-1, 6-2. Against Loyola, Michalisin defeated J. Pierce Norton, 6-0, 6-2. Against Rider, he blanked Ryan Carpenter, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Michalisin teamed with Dan Sauter to record three victories. They defeated Fordham by a score of 8-2, Loyola's pair by a margin of 8-4, and Rider's duo, 8-3. Michalisin has won his last seven singles matches and is 14-9 overall this season. In doubles, Michalisin is 15-11 overall. The Stags defeated Fordham, 6-1, and posted back-to-back shutouts against Loyola and Rider to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the MAAC.
Sullivan, a freshman from Tampa, Florida, went a combined 6-0 on the week to help the Stags go 3-0 and extend their winning streak to five matches. Sullivan went 3-0 at No. 4 singles and began the week by defeating Hartford's Amanda Epstein, 6-0, 6-1. Sullivan then defeated Loyola's Andie Keyser-Baker, 6-3, 6-3, and Rider's Mallory Garbaravage, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, Sullivan teamed with Michaela Cerrone to pick up three victories. They defeated Hartford's pair, 8-1, Loyola's pair 8-3, and Rider's pair, 8-0. Sullivan has been victorious in her last five singles matches to improve her overall record to 11-6, her dual record to 9-4, and her MAAC record to 3-0. In doubles, Sullivan is 10-5 overall, including a 5-1 mark in duals. The Stags defeated Hartford 7-0, followed by a 5-2 win over Loyola, and a 7-0 over Rider to improve to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the MAAC.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place from April 23rd through April 25th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
