POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist senior forward Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio) was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday afternoon. This is Fitz’s second All-American honor as she was also an Honorable Mention AP All-American for the 2008-09 season. Fitz concluded her career as Marist’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, field goals, free throws, and games played.

The 2010 Pepsi Max MAAC Player of the Year, Fitz averaged 17.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this season while shooting 55.1% from the field and 86.8% from the free throw line. Fitz became the first women’s player in MAAC history this season to be named Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons, as well as being named MAAC Tournament MVP twice. She also was named a First-Team Academic All-District I by ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second time this season, while being named a Third Team Academic All-American.

Fitz scored 2,447 points in her career, the most for any basketball player in Marist history. She also recorded 1,066 rebounds in four seasons, playing in 137 games. In her four years with the Red Foxes, Marist went 118-19 and won at least 28 games each season. On Feb. 21, the Marist Athletics Department announced that it will retire Fitz’s #12 jersey at a home game during the 2010-11 season.

Marist won its seventh consecutive MAAC regular-season title in the 2009-10 season, while taking its sixth MAAC Tournament title in the last seven seasons. The Red Foxes finished the season with a 28-6 record, their seventh-straight 20-win season and fourth-consecutive 25-win season.
