2010 MAAC Cross Country Championships to Be Held at Hammonasset Beach State Park

Edison, N.J. - Hammonasset Beach State Park will be the site for the 2010 MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 29, hosted by Fairfield University.
Hammonasset Beach State Park is located in Madison, Conn. It is Connecticut's largest shoreline park, with over two miles of beach. Hammonasset Beach State Park opened on July 18, 1920, attracting over 75,000 visitors in its first season. During World War II, the park was closed to the public and used as a U.S. Army reservation.
Last season, the Iona College men and women were victorious at the 2009 MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, New York. Iona's Ryan Sheridan and Anna Holm-Jorgensen were the men's and women's individual winners, respectively.
The Iona men's team, who finished in eighth place at the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championship, has won 19 consecutive MAAC Cross Country Championships. The Gaels took the first three places, and seven of the first nine, to win the meet with 17 points. Marist College placed second with 57 points, while Rider University was third with 115.
The Iona women have won five consecutive MAAC Championships and six overall. The Gaels put three runners in the top four to lead them to a meet low 27 points. Marist finished second with 56 points, followed by Canisius College with 66 points.
