New Rochelle, NY- On Thursday, April 15, the Iona College men's and women's basketball teams participated in a wheelchair basketball game against the United Spinal Nassau Kings. The student-athletes traded sneakers for wheels to compete against the talented wheelchair squad in what turned into an exciting overtime match up between the two teams giving the crowd a real treat. The event was held in the Hynes Athletics Center in an effort to promote awareness of disability-related issues.
The United Spinal Association, a non-profit organization based in Jackson Heights, NY, was founded in 1946 by veterans to help enable people with spinal cord injuries to fulfill their potential as active members of their communities.
