Soderberg, Marmbrandt Win Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ – Iona’s Alexander Soderberg was selected as the MAAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week, while Manhattan’s Malin Marmbrandt earned the women’s award.
Soderberg, a sophomore from Saltsjöbaden, Sweden, earned a fifth place finish in the 5000-meter championship race at the 2010 Penn Relay Carnival. Soderberg qualified for the IC4A Championship in May with his personal best time of 14:05.71. He finished just over four seconds behind the race winner from William & Mary and less than a half second after the fourth place finisher from Indiana. Thirty-three competitors were in the championship race field.
Marmbrandt, a 5-6 senior from Enkoping, Sweden, had an eventful Penn Relays. After tying a school record Thursday in the long jump, Marmbrandt came back at the meet Friday and won the College Women's Triple Jump Eastern section with a leap of 12.38-meters on her last jump of the day. Her school record-tying long jump on Thursday was 6.02-meters, good for fifth place in the event.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 1-2 on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J.
