Celebration, FL - The 2010 MAAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships begin Friday, April 30, at Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, FL.
The men's first round of their three-day, 54-hole tournament will begin on Friday at 7:30 a.m. The women's first round of their three-day, 54-hole tournament will tee off at 9:45 a.m. The men's course measures to 7,038 yards, while the women's course is 5,958 yards.
The Loyola men have won two straight MAAC Championships. Michael Mulieri, currently an assistant coach for the Greyhounds, won the last two individual titles. The top returning player from last year's championship is Canisius senior Drew Creighton, who was edged out last year by Mulieri in a one-hole playoff.
The Siena women have won nine consecutive MAAC Championships. However, the field has been extended from two teams to six with the additions of Niagara University, University at Albany, Boston University, and University of Hartford. Siena junior Katelynn Mannix has won the last two individual championships.
The individual men's and women's champions will be presented with the McLeod Memorial Award. The award is presented annually by friends and family of Charles “Scott” McLeod, who passed away in 1985 after a life-long fight with kidney-related ailments. The award has a direct association with this tournament -- Scott was a 1980 graduate of Iona College, an original member institution of the MAAC. He was also a lifetime member of the Pelham Country Club, where the MAAC championship was held in the middle 1980’s. McLeod was a sponsor of the tournament the first year the championship was held at Pelham.
