Celebration, FL - The Siena men's and women's teams lead after the first day of the 2010 MAAC Golf Championships at Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, FL.
The men's team posted a score of 300 to lead the way. Sophomore Jeff Smith led a balanced Saints' team with a two-over 74. Rider ended the first round in second place with a score of 302, while Iona and Loyola were tied for third (305). Saint Peter's ended the day in fifth (308), followed by Canisius (311), Fairfield (312), Manhattan (317), and Niagara (343).
Saint Peter's junior Sean Fitzpatrick was the individual leader after the first round. He shot a four-under 68, giving him a four stroke cushion over second place Doug Hoppe of Iona.
On the women's side, Siena posted a score of 317 behind the play of senior Bridget Carr, the women's individual leader, who posted a two-over 74. Fairfield was second after day one with a 319, followed by UAlbany (328), Hartford (329), Boston University (330), and Niagara (422).
Competition will resume tomorrow with the men teeing off at 7:30 a.m., followed by the women at 9:45 a.m. Click here for second round tee times (page 2).
