INDIANAPOLIS - Men's golf will travel to the West Coast for the third time this season as the Greyhounds were selected to play in the Bremerton, Washington Regional, as announced Monday night by the NCAA offices in Indianapolis. The 2010 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions will be making their third straight NCAA Championship Tournament appearance as the No. 13 seed.
No. 1-seeded Washington will serve as hosts for the event at Gold Mountain Golf Club, across the Puget Sound from Seattle. Washington is currently ranked No. 3 in the Golf World/Nike Division I Coaches Poll and the Greyhounds will also go up against No. 9 Southern California, No. 14 Illinois and No. 24 Oregon State.
San Diego, Colorado State, Middle Tennessee, SMU, New Mexico, Fresno State, Eastern Michigan and VCU are also in the field.
The `Hounds received the MAAC's automatic qualifying bid after winning their third straight conference title May 2, by a combined score of 44-over 908 at Celebration Golf Course in Kissimmee, Fla. Loyola won in dramatic fashion, coming from behind by more than 10 strokes in Sunday's final round to defeat Siena.
Sophomores Jay Mulieri, Ryan McCarthy and Patrick McCormick all placed in the top-10 in the MAAC Championships, with Mulieri finishing as the runner-up.
