Siena's Dan Paolini Named Second Team All-American

Loudonville, N.Y. - Dan Paolini's historic season was recognized in a major way today as Collegiate Baseball tabbed the rising junior second baseman a Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American. Paolini was the only second baseman named to the Second Team. Zach MacPhee of Arizona State was the First Team pick, and three second baseman were selected to the Third Team.
He is the only student-athlete in Siena history to be named to a Division I All-American team. Marc Brown (1991 - Associated Press, Men's Basketball), Liz Lops (1994 - WBCA Kodak, Women's Basketball), Tony Asterino (1981 - USILA, Men's Lacrosse) and Brent Herbst (2009, 2010 - USILA, Men's Lacrosse) were all Division I All-American Honorable Mention selections.
Paolini (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) becomes the first Division I All-American in Siena baseball history. Gary Holle Sr. was selected a Division II All-American in 1975. He set a MAAC record with 26 home runs this season, a mark that currently ties for second in the nation. He crushed the program mark of 15 set 25 years ago by Steve Borg (1985).
Paolini, last season's MAAC Rookie of the Year, posted a .368 batting average (78-212) during his recently completed second season for the Saints. He also registered a league-best .816 slugging percentage while setting a school-record with 62 runs scored and 64 RBI. He stole 12 bases in just 15 attempts on the season, and made just four errors in 264 chances (.985) at second base.
Paolini ranked among the nation's leaders with four multi-home run games. Paolini had 20 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games this season, including three games in which he drove ion at least five runs.
Paolini will play for the Chatham A's in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer. Kevin Mailloux of Canisius was named a Third-Team All-American by the ABCA in 2008. The 2010 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Americans will be announced during the College World Series.
