Fairfield University's Anthony Hajjar Named To Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team

TUCSON, Ariz. - Fairfield University first baseman Anthony Hajjar (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) was named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.

Hajjar, who was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year, hit .380 in his Stags debut and set the Fairfield single season record for hits (76). Hajjar, who did not miss a single start, was second on the team in RBI with 46 to go along with his 37 runs scored, 14 doubles, seven homeruns, and two triples.

He also notched .575 slugging percentage and posted a .429 on-base percentage, reaching base in 45 of 50 games. He only struck out 21 times in 200 at-bats, recorded 12 multi-hit games, and a seven-game hitting streak. In league games, Hajjar batted .404, scoring 30 runs while driving in 28. Defensively, he had a .984 fielding percentage.

The Freshmen All-American Team was headlined by Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of The Year Matt Purke from TCU (13-0, 3.40 ERA, 122 strikeouts, 27 walks) and Freshman Player of The Year Jeremy Baltz, an outfielder from St. John's (.396, 24 HR, 16 2B, 85 RBI). The only other Fairfield player to ever earn All-American Honors as a rookie was Mike Pike who was named to the Mizuno All-American Freshman Team in 1993.

Hajjar is spending the summer playing for the Danbury Westerners of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Fairfield finished the 2010 campaign with an 18-32 overall record and an 8-16 MAAC record.
