Loyola is Picked to Win 2010 MAAC Women's Soccer Title

Edison, N.J. - Loyola University, the defending MAAC Champion, has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2010 MAAC women's soccer title in a poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Loyola finished with 96 points in the poll, seven points ahead of Fairfield University (89). Siena College was picked third with 78 points, and Niagara University finished in fourth place with 61 points. Iona College placed fifth (56), followed by Canisius College (50), Marist College (450, Manhattan College (37), Rider University (27), and Saint Peter's College (11).
Fairfield's junior forward Jasmin Corniel has been named the 2010 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Corniel, a 2009 All-MAAC First Team selection, is the league's top returning scorer after recording 10 goals and five assists for 25 points last season for the Stags.
Joining Corniel at forward are Ashleigh Barone and Caitlin Cahalan from Siena. The midfielders are Kelly Reinwald from Canisius, Spenser Allaway from Fairfield, Gabriella D'Aprile from Iona, and Kelly Farrell and Gianna Mangione from Loyola. The backs are anchored by Alyssa Decker from Fairfield, Diane Hare from Iona, Lina Staropoli from Loyola, and Shannon Clancy and Maren Serafine from Siena. Fairfield's Kelly Boudreau rounds out the team at the goalkeeper position.
