Loyola Picked to Win 2010 MAAC Men's Soccer Title

Edison, N.J. - Loyola University, the defending MAAC Champion, has been selected as the favorite to win the 2010 MAAC men's soccer title in a preseason poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
The Greyhounds earned the top spot with 96 points in the poll, while Fairfield University and Iona College tied for second place (81). Niagara University was picked fourth with 64 points. Marist College placed fifth (55), followed by Siena College (54), Saint Peter's College (45), Canisius College (33), Rider University (25) and Manhattan College (18).
Loyola senior forward Phil Bannister has been named the 2010 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Bannister, a 2009 All-MAAC selection, finished in a tie for third place on the MAAC scoring chart last season with four goals and 13 assists for 21 points for the Greyhounds.
Joining Bannister at forward are Krystian Witkowski from Marist and Emery Welshman from Siena. In the midfield are Matthew Uy from Fairfield, Mario Rios from Iona and Levi Tesch from Niagara. The backs are anchored by Jack Cleverley from Fairfield, Roberto Hernandez-Raaen from Iona, Gerwyn Jones from Loyola, and Lebogang Pila from Saint Peter's. Fairfield's Michael O'Keefe rounds out the team at the goalkeeper position.
