Fairfield to Host Canisius on January 31 on MSG and MASN

Edison, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference continues its 2010-11 MAAC Basketball Television Schedule with Fairfield University hosting Canisius College on Monday, January 31. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m., and will air live on the MSG Network and MASN.
Canisius, 10-10 overall and 4-6 in the MAAC, is led by senior forward Elton Frazier, who is contributing 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, and sophomore guard Gaby Belardo, who is posting 11.3 points and 3.9 assists an outing for the Griffs.
Fairfield, 16-4 overall and 9-1 in the MAAC, is led by sophomore guard Derek Needham, who is registering 14.0 points and 5.0 assists per game, and junior forward Ryan Olander, who is averaging 10.0 points and 7.3 rebounds an outing for the Stags.
On January 21, Needham scored 19 points as Fairfield defeated Canisius, 67-60, at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Stags, who are ranked No. 2 in the nation in scoring defense (54.8 points per game), held the Golden Griffins scoreless for more than nine minutes in the second half. Fairfield led 32-30 at halftime, but Canisius opened the second half on a 7-2 run. After Chris Manhertz made a layup to put the Golden Griffins ahead 47-44 with 11:37 left, Canisius missed eight field goals and one free throw and turned the ball over five times. Fairfield used a 12-0 run, capped by a Needham layup, to lead 56-47 with 2:44 left. The Stags made 8 of 12 free throws in the final 1:30 for their 13th win in 14 games. Yorel Hawkins added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Fairfield. Belardo led the Golden Griffins with 15 points.
