Saints Compete in Catamount Classic Lacrosse for a Cure
Siena Sports Information
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Lacrosse will be
participating in the Catamount Classic Lacrosse for a Cure held at
Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass. on Sunday, Oct. 9. The Saints will be
playing three games against Division I competition, but more
importantly will be aiming to raise money and awareness for testicular
cancer research at what has become the premiere fall lacrosse tournament
in the northeast.
"We are excited to take part in the first women's division of the
Catamount Classic this year and help raise awareness and funds for
cancer research," said head coach Andrea Duffy. "We would like to thank Ryan and Kelly Curtis for putting together such a great event."
The Catamount Classic will feature both a men's and women's
Division I lacrosse tournament. The women's division, which features
eight northeast colleges and universities, begins at 8 a.m. The Saints
will play three games that day featuring twenty-minute running halves
against Iona (8 a.m.), Boston University (9 a.m.) and Brown (10:30
a.m.).
The Catamount Classic was started in 2008 to raise money and
awareness for testicular cancer research after a University of Vermont
men's lacrosse player was diagnosed with the disease. The event has
raised nearly $100,000 to testicular cancer research at the Dana-Farber
Cancer Institute and this year the women's event has been added to help
broaden the event.
