Yoshida, Morris, Cavallaro and Tobias Honored With Weekly Awards

Maryland's Brennan Morris was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while
Fairfield University's Michelle Yoshida earned the award on the women's side.
Rider University's Brendon Cavallaro was chosen as the Men's Diver of the Week and
Marist College's Kimberly Tobias was selected as the Women's Diver of the Week.
Yoshida has
begun her final season as a Stag by winning four events and setting a program
record. In her first meet of the year on October 8 against Holy Cross, she was
a triple-winner, helping the Stags to victory. Yoshida captured the 100m
backstroke in a time of 1:08.68 and the 50m freestyle in a time of 27.93
seconds. She was the lead leg of the winning 200m medley relay that posted a
time of 2:05.15. Her split of 31.00 seconds was the fastest in the pool. At the
CCSU Blue Devil Duals, October 14-15, Yoshida
captured the 200y backstroke in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:06.60, breaking
her own program record by nearly four seconds. She was also the runner-up in
the 50y free, clocking a time of 24.84 seconds missing first place by .10.
Yoshida took third in the 100y freestyle with a time of 54.90 seconds as well.
Yoshida also swam on four relays. She was the anchor on the 200y freestyle
relay (1:42.25) that placed third, swimming a time of 24.14 seconds, and the
anchor for the third-place 800y freestyle relay (8:03.98), swimming a time of
1:56.32, the fastest anchor in the pool. She was the lead leg (28.82) of the
200y medley relay (1:55.24) which finished fourth and finished the meet by
swimming the fastest lead leg of the 400y freestyle relay in a time of 29.06
seconds.
Morris
won three individual events to lead the Loyola University Maryland's swimming
and diving teams in its season opener with George Mason and Navy on Saturday at
the Mangione Pool in the Fitness and Aquatics Center. He won the 1000-yard
freestyle (9:23.45), 500-yard freestyle (5:31.53) and the 200-yard backstroke
(1:49.92)
As
the men's diver of the week, Cavallaro won the men's three-meter dive with a
score of 310.57 and placed second in the one-meter with a score of 211.05 in a
dual meet against UMBC.
In
her debut meet versus Army on Oct. 14, Tobias earned substantial victories in
both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. In her first board, the 1-meter, she
cruised to a 78.67 point win over her nearest competition. With a score of
270.97, she qualified for the 2012 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. In the
3-meter board, she won with a point total of 232.95, 59.78 points ahead of
second place.
The 2012 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Thursday, February 16
through Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Erie Community College in
Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University.
