Bridgepirt, CT - The Fairfield Women's Basketball Team took a trip to The
Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport, CT to visit with children that are
part of their basketball and after school program. As the Stags arrived, they
were able to watch the tail end of a basketball practice and cheer the kids on
as they were finishing up a scrimmage between one another.
After they offered the kids a few tips, the group went
upstairs to sit down and talk to them about what it means to be a
student-athlete, the hard work that it takes to compete in college, peer
pressure, and the negative influences and challenges that they faced growing up
as kids. It was a great opportunity for The Stags to talk to the children about
issues in society and how sports can be an outlet and a positive influence in
their life. After a question and answer session, the team had a delicious pasta
dinner with the kids before heading back to campus.
"Coming to The Wakeman Boys and Girls Club is always a great
opportunity to talk to the kids about not only basketball and our journey to
college, but the importance of academics, staying out of trouble, and just
doing the right things when you are that age," junior guard Katelyn Linney
said.
