Senior forward Kristina Ford opened up her 2011-12 season with a dynamic 34 point effort in the Gaels' 85-69 win over North Carolina A&T. Ford set a new career high in point and field goals in the contest, while also leading the Gaels with six rebounds. In the game, she also became the 22nd player in Iona history to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark. Ford led the Gaels with 12 points in 34 minutes of play in the squad's 76-47 loss to Villanova.

Damika Martinez, Iona
Freshman, Guard, 5-7, Meriden, CT/ Orville H. Platt

Freshman Damika Martinez opened up her Iona career with a pair of double digit efforts as the Gaels went 1-1 at the Iona Tip-Off Tournament. In a 85-69 win over North Carolina A&T, Martinez had 10 points, going three-of-four from the field. She also contributed four rebounds and two steals. In a 76-47 loss to Villanova, Martinez had 11 points to go along with a team high seven rebounds.
