2011 MAAC Volleyball Championship Descends on Yanitelli Center

Edison, NJ - The 2011
Volleyball Championship begins this weekend, November 19-20 at the Yanitelli
Center in Jersey City, N.J. on the campus of Saint Peter's College.
The first semifinal matchup is on Saturday, Nov. 19 between local
rivals top-seeded Niagara and fourth-seeded Canisius at noon. Niagara swept the
regular season meetings, winning 3-1 on Sept. 24 and 3-0 on Oct. 19. Niagara is
the two-time reigning MAAC Champions.
Second-seeded Fairfield and third-seeded Siena will renew
their MAAC Championship rivalry in the second semifinal matchup at 4 p.m. The Stags
and Saints met in four consecutive title matches from 2005 through 2008 with
Siena claiming all four championships. Fairfield took both regular season
matches, winning on Sept. 25 in five sets and 3-1 on Oct. 5, but Siena has won
9 of its last 10 league matches, including a victory over previously unbeaten
Niagara.
The championship match will take place on Sunday, Nov. 20 at
1 p.m. The winner of the championship will receive the MAAC's automatic bid to
the 2011 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.

will begin at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, November 18. The banquet is available free
of charge.
