Marist Sweeps Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ - Marist College's Jason Ruddy was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while fellow Red Fox Greta Leberfinger earned the award on the women's side. Marist's Sean Molloy was chosen as the Men's Diver of the Week along with Kimberly Tobias being selected as the Women's Diver of the Week.

Ruddy had a standout meet for the Red Foxes versus Binghamton on Saturday, Nov. 19 as he won two individual events and set three season-best times. He started his day with a season-best mark in the 50-yd butterfly portion of the 200-yd medley relay, with his efforts Marist's "A" team secured a second place finish, just .56 off of the win. In his next race, the 200-yd butterfly, he swam to an easy victory with a time of 1:55.45, 5.32 seconds clear of his nearest competitor. His second place finish in the 100-yd butterfly was a season-best as he finished in 52.24, less than .20 off of the win. Ruddy's most clutch performance of the meet was in event 30, the men's 200-yd IM. With the teams neck-and-neck throughout the meet, his win and season-best time of 1:57.59 gave the Red Foxes an important nine points heading into the relay, where they held off the Bearcats for a 151-148 dual victory.

Leberfinger, a freshman, had a stellar meet for the Red Foxes in their dual win versus Binghamton on Saturday, Nov. 19. In each of her four events, Leberfinger swam to season-best times. In her individual victories in the 100- and 200-yd breaststroke her times were 1:05.67 and 2:22.87. Though finishing a close second to teammate Kate Conard, Leberfinger still managed to swim to a season-best 2:12.12 in the 200-yd IM. Her final season-best time was recorded in the breaststroke portion of the 200-yd medley relay, where she helped the Marist "A" team to a 1:49.20 victory.

Molloy earned 13 points for the Red Foxes in their meet at home versus Binghamton. He won the 3-meter board with a 258.90 final score. In his second event, the 1-meter, Molloy finished in second place with a score of 251.17.

Tobias had a strong diving meet versus Binghamton as she won both the 1 and 3-meter boards for the Red Foxes. In her first event, the 1-meter, she dove to a six-dive total of 236.25, while she compiled a score of 239.77 in the 3-meter.

The 2012 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Thursday, February 16 through Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University.
