Morris, Cronin, Cavallaro and Mixa Honored With Weekly Awards

Maryland's Brennan Morris was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while
Loyola's Caitlin Cronin earned the award on
the women's side. Rider University's Brendan Cavallaro was chosen as the Men's
Diver of the Week and Loyola's Elle Mixa was
selected as the Women's Diver of the Week.
Morris remained undefeated in individual events this season,
winning three more events this weekend against Johns Hopkins and Saint Francis
(Pa.). Throughout the meet, Morris won the 200-yard backstroke, 400-yard
individual medley and the 1650-yard freestyle, running his streak of undefeated
individual victories to nine straight. He was also a member of two of Loyola's
winning relay teams - the 400-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle.
Morris' 400 IM time of 3:54.05 meets the NCAA B cut and
ranks third in the NCAA this season, while his winning time of 15:34.22 in the
1650-yard freestyle ranks fifth in the country. He also touched first in the
200-yard backstroke in 1:49.24, and as a member of the 400-yard freestyle (3:09.67)
and the 800-yard freestyle (6:57.98). His 200-yard medley relay team finished
second (1:35.82) and his 400-yard medley relay finished third (3:28.81).
Cronin earned three first-place finishes this weekend against Johns Hopkins and
Saint Francis (Pa.). She also added four more top-three finishes throughout the
meet. Cronin won the 100-yard freestyle in 52.35 and the 200-yard freestyle in
1:54.72, while she was a member of Loyola's winning 400-yard freestyle relay
(3:36.56). She also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.49) and as a
member of the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.41), while she was third in the
200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.33) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:58.22). Her times
are all ECAC A cut times.
As
the men's diver of the week, Cavallaro won both the 1-meter dive with a score
of 303.68 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 331.05.
Mixa swept the individual diving titles against Johns Hopkins and
Saint Francis (Pa.) this weekend. Mixa won the 1-meter diving competition with
a score of 253.05 and the 3-meter diving with a score of 214.35. Her 1-meter
diving score was just over two points shy of the Megan Sterback's program
record of 255.23 from 2006.
The 2012 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Thursday, February 16
through Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Erie Community College in
Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University.
