Saint Peter's Women, Manhattan Men Win 2011 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

New York, NY - Saint Peter's College won its first MAAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship, while Manhattan College won its 15th consecutive men's championship.

Saint Peter's won the 2011 championship with 196 points. Manhattan finished second with 183, followed by Iona (82), Rider (68), Loyola (57), and Marist (32). It is the first time Manhattan has not won the women's championship since 2007 and only the second time since 1990.

On the men's side, Manhattan had 141 points, followed closely by Rider with 136. Saint Peter's took third (122) with Iona (66) and Marist (29) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Saint Peter's Ronnah Parham set a new standard in the women's 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.00, .17 seconds faster than Manhattan's Siri Fagerlund ran in 2008. Manhattan's Cara Rostant tied the record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.80, equaling the mark set by fellow Jasper Tiffany Poole in 2000. Rostant was also part of Manhattan's record setting 4x400-meter relay (3:47.89), along with Heidy Palacios, Ashley Bowman, and Jackie Hargrove. Manhattan's Malin Olsson set a new mark in the long jump with a leap of 6.09 meters, breaking the old mark of 5.95 meters.

Manhattan's Tobias Lundgren set a new MAAC record in the men's 5000-meters with a time of 14:32.79, breaking the existing mark of 14:33.42 set by Iona's Stephen Chemlany in 2006. Teammate Brian McGovern set a new record in the pole vault with a height of 5.09 meters, breaking a 21-year old mark set by Army's Jason Jenkins.

Iona's Leonard Korir and Rider's Christian Gonzalez were selected as co-Men's Most Outstanding Performers for Track Events, while Manhattan's Colin Quirke earned Men's Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. Iona's Heidi Gregson was chosen as the Women's Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events, while Manhattan's Olsson was voted Women's Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events.

Manhattan head coach Dan Mecca was named the MAAC Men's Coach of the Year, while Saint Peter's Mike Massone earned Women's Coach of the Year honors.
