Fairfield Sweeps Tennis Player of the Week Honors

Edison, NJ - MAAC Men's and
Women's Tennis Players of the
Week were awarded to sophomore Erik Kremheller and freshman Monica Yajima both
of Fairfield University.
Kremheller has started his
sophomore campaign an undefeated 5-0 including a 3-0 singles run and 2-0 in
doubles play. He began the 2011 dual season with a three-set win at No. 5
singles against Army's Alex Holland 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 on January 28. He also paired
with Joe Michalisin at No. 1 doubles to defeat Army duo of Asika and Johnson
8-5. Kremheller also finished the Stags' 4-3 victory over Stony Brook on
February 4 with a win at No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles. He defeated Stony
Brook's Max Sztabholz 6-4, 6-4 in singles, and teamed up with Michalisin to
take care of Fomin and Rummel 9-7 in doubles play. Most recently, Kremheller
clinched the Stags' 4-2 victory over NJIT as he topped Dan Salomon in a
three-set match at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.
Yajima has played at the No.
1 spot in every match this spring, going an undefeated 3-0 in singles play and
1-1 in doubles. She began the spring with a 6-3, 7-5, win in the Stags season
opening 5-2 victory over Fordham on January 29. She also won her doubles match
with teammate Carolina Koladzyn in a dominating 8-1 performance. Yajima was one
of two players to win their singles match against out of conference foe Stony
Brook as she came out on top in a three-set match against Nini Lagvilava, 5-7,
6-4, 6-2 on February 4. Most recently, the freshman was also one of two players
to earn a point in the Stags' 5-2 loss to NJIT on February 12, as she topped
Ksenia Kuzimenko 7-5, 7-5.
The 2011 MAAC Tennis
Championships will be hosted on April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
