Loyola Sweeps MAAC Tennis Weekly Honors

Edison, NJ - MAAC Men's and
Women's Tennis Players of the
Week were awarded to Dan D'Agostino and Rachel Janasek, both of Loyola
University Maryland.
D'Agostino helped lead the
Greyhounds to three wins last week, as they defeated Hartford, La Salle and St.
Francis (Pa.). The senior co-captain went 3-0 in both singles and doubles
action during the matches. Against Hartford, he defeated Bogdan Nedelcu, 6-4,
6-4. On Saturday versus La Salle, D'Agostino rallied from a first-set loss to
beat Fernando Tovia, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-4. He wrapped up his singles play last
week with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over St. Francis' Youlian Natchev. In doubles
action, he teamed with Keyan Sanai to beat Marco Neves and Eric Floum, 8-4,
against Hartford. The duo then recorded a pair of shutout 8-0 wins against
doubles opponents from La Salle and St. Francis.
Janasek continued her
impressive play this season with a 5-0 singles record last week, leading the
Greyhounds to four wins in five dual matches. The reigning MAAC Women's Tennis
Player of the Year opened her week with a straight-sets win, 6-0, 6-3, victory
over Hartford's Katina Zampas. Janasek then defeated Fordham's Angelika Dabu, a
four-star player, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. She used straight-sets to top Anna Ratnikova
of Delaware State, 6-2, 6-0, and La Salle's Kiara Smith, 6-2, 7-5. In doubles
action, Janasek and Joy Johnson beat Maggie Sabatino and Zampas of Hartford,
8-4, and La Salle's Leah Garrison and Chloe Trave, 8-2. They also picked up a
win against St. Francis (Pa.).
The 2011 MAAC
Tennis Championships will be hosted on April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
