Fairfield Sweeps MAAC Tennis Weekly Honors

Edison, NJ - MAAC Men's and
Women's Tennis Players of the
Week were awarded to Dan Sauter and Sharissa Ryan, both of Fairfield University.
Sauter completed the weekend
of play going 3-1 in the Stags matches against Villanova and Harvard. Sauter
began the weekend by defeating Villanova's Trenton Alenik 6-4, 6-4 at third
singles. He paired with Bjorn Merinder at No. 1 doubles to top Trenton Alenik
and Thomas O'Brien 8-6. The Stags beat the Wildcats 4-3 on March 26, and
returned to play March 27, falling in a close 4-3 match to Ivy League foe
Harvard. Sauter won his singles match against Harvard's Mac McAnulty 4-6, 6-2,
6-0. He is now 13-8 overall this season.
Ryan won both of her singles
matches this week. She started out with a victory over Villanova's Mikelle
Mancini 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 at first singles. The Stags topped the Wildcats 4-3 on
March 26. Ryan earned the only point for the Stags in their 6-1 loss to UMass
on March 27 when she defeated Yuliana Motyl in a decisive 6-2, 6-3 match at No.
1 singles. The freshman is now 16-7 overall boasting a 4-0 record at first
singles, and 5-2 in the No. 2 spot. She is also on a seven match win streak in
singles play, winning eight of her last ten matches.
The 2011 MAAC
Tennis Championships will be hosted on April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
