2011 Spark Energy MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals Set for Friday

Bridgeport, Conn. - The 2011 Spark Energy MAAC Women's Basketball Championship continues today with four quarterfinal contests at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard. All four games can be seen live on MAACSports.com.
At 9:30 a.m., #2 Loyola will take on #7 Canisius. The Golden Griffins advanced to the quarterfinals with a first round win over #10 Niagara on Thursday. The Greyhounds took two games from Canisius in 2011, winning 57-49 back on January 8 and then a 71-65 victory on January 30.
#3 Manhattan meets #6 Iona in the second game of the day. The Lady Jaspers beat Iona on Valentine's Day, 63-47, and then closed the regular season schedule with a six point win in New Rochelle.
Top-seeded Marist, currently #21/18 in the nation, will begin its quest for a sixth straight conference title against #8 Saint Peter's, which knocked out Rider on Thursday. The Red Foxes took out Saint Peter's twice by scores of 76-34 on January 8 and 79-38 on February 21.
The last quarterfinal match-up of the day features #4 Siena against #5 Fairfield. The two teams are no strangers to one another having met five straight years in the MAAC Tournament from 2005 through 2009 before taking a one year hiatus last season. Siena swept Fairfield this season with two eight point victories.
