Iona, Saint Peter's Set for 2011 Spark Energy MAAC Men's Basketball Championship Game

Bridgeport, Conn. - Tonight the MAAC will crown a new champion in men’s basketball as second-seeded Iona College takes on fourth-seeded Saint Peter’s College in the championship game of the 2011 Spark Energy MAAC Basketball Championship. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard, and can be seen live on ESPN2.
Tonight’s game marks the fourth time that the Gaels and the Peacocks have faced each other in the title game. In the MAAC’s first men’s basketball championship game in 1982, Iona defeated Saint Peter’s, 66-61 in overtime. In 1991, the Peacocks evened the series with a 64-58 victory over the Gaels. Finally, in 2006, Iona earned an 80-61 win over Saint Peter’s to take a 2-1 lead in the final series between the two schools.
