Salem, Thomas and Rooney Earn MAAC Baseball Weekly Honors

MAAC Player of the Week

CHAD SALEM, MANHATTAN
Senior, INF, 6-0, 205, Rye, N.Y./Iona Prep

Salem posted a .611 (11-for-18) batting average, a .632 on-base percentage and .833 slugging percentage in the Jaspers' four games last week. He drove in four runs, recorded four doubles and scored three times in non-conference contests at Fordham, Winthrop and against Notre Dame. Salem has a 5-for-5 performance at the plate to lead Manhattan to a 5-2 victory over Notre Dame. He drove in three RBIs against the BIG EAST opponent leading the Jaspers to their second win of the year.

 


MAAC Pitcher of the Week

MIKE THOMAS, RIDER
Senior, LHP, 6-2, 180, Forest Hill, Md./Fallston

Thomas pitched six shutout innings in Rider's 6-0 win over Cornell, striking out a career-high 11 batters. He also allowed just three hits against the Big Red.

 


MAAC Rookie of the Week

JOHN ROONEY, SIENA
Freshman, OF, 5-11, 180, Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden

Rooney hit safely in all three games of Siena's series at Charleston Southern. He batted .364 with a .500 on-base percentage and a .455 slugging percentage. Rooney went 1-for-3 with a walk, run scored and RBI in the series opener, 2-for-4 in a 5-4 setback in the second game, and 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in a 5-4 loss in the series finale. Rooney reached base seven times in 14 plate appearances as the Saints' leadoff man, and did not make an error in six outfield chances.
