Niagara, NY - Most of us can't fathom the time demands of a Division I athlete. The young women of the Niagara University Women's hockey team carry a full academic schedule in addition to the rigors of practice, training, games, and travel. In spite of a grueling schedule, these remarkable young women take the time to volunteer each week at SABAH's Niagara University evening program.

"These amazing young women are simply vital to the program. I can't express enough how important they've been to our participants. They are compassionate, patient, caring, fun, and enthusiastic. They don't just show up out of obligation - they genuinely care about the person they are helping," states Executive Director Sheila O'Brien. "Additionally, with participation levels continuing to climb at this rink, we would be shorthanded without them."

"At first, you don't realize just how amazing it is that these young women volunteer for us. On one of the first ice sessions we had this year, we were casually talking about the events of the day. These young women had attended their classes, had been studying for their upcoming mid-term tests, had already had a hockey practice that day, and had to get up at 4:00 a.m. the next morning to travel to a hockey game. And here they were, taking time out of their schedule to cheerfully volunteer for us. They are certainly a tremendous credit to the Niagara University hockey program and to the university as a whole."
