MAAC Tennis Honors Awarded to Ross and Rossi

Edison, NJ - MAAC Men's and
Women's Tennis Players of the
Week were awarded to Lorenzo Rossi of Marist College and Nicole Ross of Siena
College.
Rossi posted perfect 5-0
records at both singles and doubles as Marist won all five of its matches this
past week. The Red Foxes earned conference victories over Fairfield and Saint
Peter's, and non-conference triumphs against Hofstra, Hartford and Army. All
five of Rossi's singles' victories occurred at the number one slot in the
lineup, which came by scores of 6-2, 6-4; 6-2, 6-2; 6-2, 6-1; 6-1, 6-4; and
6-3, 4-6, 10-6. In doubles, Rossi teamed with fellow freshman Will Reznek to
earn 9-8, 8-2 and 8-5 wins at third doubles, and 8-6, 8-5 triumphs at second
doubles.
Ross came up huge
in a pair of MAAC victories that helped clinch a spot in the MAAC Tournament for
the Saints. She began the weekend with a convincing 6-1 and 6-1 victory at No.
5 singles over Megan Maffei of Manhattan. In that match, she also teamed with
Jasleen Sandhu to post a thrilling 9-7 victory at top doubles, helping secure
the doubles point. In Siena's critical 4-3 win over Saint Peter's, which may
end up being the difference in a postseason berth, Ross dug deep to post a
come-from-behind 6-7, 6-3 and 6-2 win over Vanessa Vogel in singles play that
determined the outcome of the match. Her perfect week included another victory
at top doubles with Sandhu - this time an 8-5 win over the Peahens top tandem
of Alex Livingston and Ivana Grbelja. Ross and the Saints are a perfect 3-0 in
MAAC play this season.
The 2011 MAAC
Tennis Championships will be hosted on April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
