Six MAAC Men's Basketball Players Named to 2010-11 All-Met Division I Teams

Edison, N.J. - Six MAAC men's basketball players were named to the 2010-11 All-Met Division I men's college basketball teams, announced Tuesday by the National Invitation Tournament and Met Basketball Writers Association.

Iona College's Mike Glover and Scott Machado earned spots on the First Team. Glover, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound junior forward from the Bronx, N.Y., made the most of his first season with the Gaels. He was named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week on Dec. 7 after averaging 29.7 points and 12.7 rebounds in a 3-0 week for the Maroon and Gold. Glover finished the season ranked second in both scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.1 rpg). He also led the league in field goal percentage, connecting on 61 percent of his attempts from the floor.

Machado, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior guard from Queens, N.Y., made his first appearance on the All-MAAC First Team. He closed out the year ranked eighth in the MAAC in scoring with 13.2 points an outing while being second in the nation in assists with 7.6 a night for the Gaels. Machado shot 41 percent from the field, 32 percent from three-point range and 67.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Fairfield University's Derek Needham was named to the Second Team. Needham, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound sophomore guard from Dolton, Ill., picked up where he left off last season after being named the 2009-2010 MAAC Rookie of the Year. He closed out the season ranked sixth in scoring with 14.1 points per game and third in assists with 4.5 an outing for the Stags.

In addition, Wesley Jenkins from Saint Peter's College, Justin Robinson from Rider University and George Beamon from Manhattan College were Third Team selections. Jenkins, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior guard from Newark, N.J. helped lead the Peacocks to earn its first MAAC title in 16 years and a spot in the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. He ranked ninth on the MAAC scoring chart with 12.6 points per game. Jenkins was also ranked ninth in both three-point field goal percentage (.401) and free throw percentage (.766) along with 14th in steals (1.2).

Robinson, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior guard from London, England, anchored the Rider backcourt this season. He finished fifth in the MAAC in scoring with 15.2 points per game, and seventh in assists with 3.8 an outing. Robinson also led the league in free throw percentage, connecting on 90.9 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe, good for fifth place on the NCAA charts.

Beamon, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound sophomore guard/forward from Roslyn, N.Y., was the top scorer for the Jaspers last season, registering 16.3 points per game, placing him third on the MAAC scoring chart. He also pulled down 6.1 caroms a night (13th in the MAAC), recorded 1.5 steals per game (fourth) and shot 73.9 percent from the free throw line (10th).

The All-Met players and coaches will be honored Tuesday evening, April 26, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
