Fairfield Sweeps MAAC Tennis Weekly Honors

Edison, NJ - MAAC Men's and
Women's Tennis Players of the
Week were awarded to Erik Kremheller and Monica Yajima, both of Fairfield
University.
Kremheller went an impressive
6-0 in the Stags' three matches this week. Kremheller won his singles and
doubles match in their close 4-3 loss to Monmouth on March 31. Kremheller
topped Harveer Bhalla 6-7, 7-5, 10-6 at fourth singles and paired with Joe
Michalisin to defeat Monmouth's Laurence Heads and Ian Terpilowski 8-6 in the
No. 1 doubles spot. The Stags returned to play April 2 by blanking MAAC foe
Loyola 7-0. Kremheller beat Bobby Gorcazowski 7-6(4), 6-0 in the No. 4 singles
position. He and Michalisin also defeated Loyola's Pierce Norton and Kevin
Zingler 8-5 at first doubles. Most recently, the Fairfield men's tennis team
defeated cross-town rival Sacred Heart on Monday afternoon. Kremheller
continued his solid play by defeating Cole Conrad in a decisive 6-0, 6-1 match,
and pairing with Michalisin to defeat Kirill Kasyanov and Chadd Sullo 8-4. The
sophomore now boasts a 16-5 overall record, and is 8-1 in the No. 4 singles
spot.
Yajima won both of her
matches in the Stags' 5-0 victory over MAAC foe Loyola on Saturday, April 2.
She began the match by defeating Rachel Janasek, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. The
freshman paired with Caroline Emhardt at first doubles to take care of Janasek
and Joy Johnson 8-5. The Greenwich, Conn. native is now on a three-match win
streak in singles play, boating an impressive 19-4 overall record and 8-1 stand
at No. 1 singles. She has also won eight of her last nine matches. The Stags
are now 3-0 in conference play and 7-7 overall.
The 2011 MAAC
Tennis Championships will be hosted on April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
