KANSAS CITY – Senior women’s golf team member Ona Peck has been selected as one of three recipients of the 2011 National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Administrator of Tomorrow Award.
“Ona is well deserving of this award,” said Niagara Associate Athletic Director/Senior Women Administrator Theresa Berg. “She works hard and is a go-getter. Ona has a bright future in intercollegiate athletics.”
The NACWAA Administrator of Tomorrow Award recognizes a student, intern, or volunteer at an institution, conference office, or association for their aspirations and preparations toward a career in intercollegiate athletics. In addition, it acknowledges the outstanding leadership and involvement of the recipient on campus and in the community.
Peck will be recognized as an Administrator of Tomorrow Award recipient at the Awesome Auction on Oct. 10 during the NACWAA National Convention from Oct. 9-11 in Pittsburgh.
About the NACWAAIn 1979, in the midst of gender-equity conflicts in intercollegiate athletics, a group of female administrators formed the Council of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (CCWAA), an organization with the goal of enhancing opportunities for women in athletics.
Since its creation, the main objective of the organization has not changed, but the roles and responsibilities have increased along with the increased exposure of women’s athletics. In 1992, in order to better represent its diversified members, the CCWAA changed its name to the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA). Expanding from its moderate beginnings, NACWAA now boasts nearly 1,700 members from universities, colleges, conferences and affiliated organizations across the country.
No longer just a forum for female administrators to exchange ideas, NACWAA has blossomed into a powerful force in college athletics, advocating for increased athletic and administrative opportunities for women, and promoting progressive and positive attitudes toward women in sports.
