DeNyse Surges to Tie for Fifth at NCAA Golf Regional

Don DeNyse III put together another stellar round Friday at the NCAA West Regional in Rancho Santa Fe, California, firing a second straight 71 to tie for fifth in the tournament at two-under-par overall. In doing so, the MAAC champion kept himself in contention for a potential trip to the NCAA Championships.
The senior started on the back nine at the Farms Golf Club, bogeying the 10th hole. However, birdies on the 13th and 16th holes got DeNyse to one-under-par on the day. He then capped off the back nine with an eagle on the par-5 18th, posting a 33 on his first nine.
After a 38 on the front to finish his round, DeNyse sits in a seven-way tie for fifth, seven shots behind leader Patrick Cantlay of UCLA. The top five individuals not affiliated with a top-five team advance to the NCAA Championships later this month. If the tournament was stopped after two rounds, DeNyse would be one of five players competing for four remaining spots (the first going to Middle Tennessee State's Jason Millard, who sits at minus-three after 36 holes).
Tournament play concludes with Saturday's third round.
