2011 MAAC Baseball Championship Begins Thursday

Edison, N.J. - The 2011 MAAC Baseball Championship begins this Thursday, May 26 with a pair of games at Waterfront Park in Trenton, N.J.

At 3:00 p.m., top-seeded Manhattan College will face fourth-seeded Canisius College. The second contest, slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. will feature second-seeded Rider University and third-seeded Siena College.

On Friday, May 27, play resumes at 3:00 p.m., with the first elimination game of the MAAC Championship. The winners of Thursday's contests will square off in Game 4 at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, May 28, another elimination contest will take place at 2:00 p.m., setting up the two teams who will play in the championship round. The championship game will take place on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. If necessary, a second game will be played on Sunday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. All contests can be seen live on www.MAACSports.com.

The 2011 MAAC Baseball Awards Banquet will be shown on www.MAACSports.com free of charge. Coverage will begin at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25.

Manhattan enters the championship with an overall record of 31-17 and a 20-2 mark in the MAAC. Canisius went 12-10 in the league and 25-30 overall. The two squads played each other on April 22 in Riverdale, New York. The Jaspers took both games of their doubleheader with the Golden Griffins, taking a 4-3 win in the morning contest and a 1-0 victory in the afternoon game.

Rider, the defending MAAC Champion, owns a 16-7 league mark and an overall record of 33-16. Siena enters the conference championship with a 14-10 MAAC record and an overall record of 26-28. In their regular season matchup on April 15 and 16 in Loudonville, N.Y., the Saints won two out of the three games that weekend. The Broncs won the first contest on Friday, edging out their host, 3-2. Siena took the second game of the twinbill Friday with a 12-7 victory, and then closed out the weekend with a 3-2 win over Rider on Saturday.

Tickets for the 2011 MAAC Baseball Championship can be purchased in advance on the Trenton Thunder website or at the gate. All-session passes are available for $25. Single-session admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and students.

The winner of the 2011 MAAC Baseball Championship will receive an automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
