Siena Lacrosse Duo Earns All-American Status
Siena Sports Information
For the third straight year, Siena Lacrosse has an All-American. But this time, for the first time ever, the Saints have two in the same year. The USILA (United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association) has named senior defenseman Duncan Seale and junior attackman Bryan Neufeld as 2011 Division I All-American Honorable Mentions with the release of the teams today.
Seale and Neufeld join former Siena greats Tony Asterino (1981) and Brent Herbst (2009, '10) in earning All-American status. The duo was the only players from the MAAC to be named All-Americans.
Seale (Commack, N.Y./Commack) was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the year earlier this month. He served as the backbone of the Siena defense this spring, picking up 26 groundballs and causing 13 turnovers.
Seale, who on Tuesday was selected to play in the prestigious North/South Game along with teammate John Rogener, will participate in that contest tomorrow for the North team at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Goucher College in Baltimore, Md.
Meanwhile Neufeld (Virgil, Ontario/Niagara District) was the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. He led the MAAC in goals (40 - 18th NCAA), points (65 - 10th NCAA) and game-winning goals (five). He will enter his senior season ranking fourth all-time in program history in goals and fifth in points.
Seale and Neufeld led a Siena Lacrosse program which posted a program-record 13 wins this spring and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the past three seasons.
