2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Begins Friday

2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship begins this Friday, May 6 with a pair of games at the Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.
At 4:30 p.m., top-seeded Siena College will face fourth-seeded Jacksonville University. The second semifinal, slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. or 45 minutes after the completion of the first game, will feature second-seeded Marist College and third-seeded University of Detroit Mercy. The championship game will be played on Sunday, May 8 at noon. All three contests can be seen live on www.MAACSports.com. All three games will also be televised by Time Warner SportsNet throughout New York state, with Friday's contests available on tape delay on Saturday, May 7 (3 and 5 p.m.) and the championship game live on Sunday.
The 2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Awards Banquet will be shown on www.MAACSports.com free of charge. Coverage will begin at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.
Siena enters the championship as the top seed for the third consecutive year. The Saints went 5-1 in conference play and are currently 11-4 overall. Jacksonville qualified for the championship following its first regular season in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse League, going 3-3 in the league and 5-9 overall. The Saints and the Dolphins played each other on April 9, with Siena earning a 14-13 victory over host Jacksonville at D.B. Milne Field.
Marist owns a 4-2 league mark and an overall record of 8-6. Detroit also enters the conference championship with a 4-2 MAAC record (5-9 overall). In their regular season matchup last weekend, the Red Foxes claimed a 14-13 victory over the Titans on April 30 at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Siena previously won the MAAC title in 2009, while Marist was dubbed the conference champion in 2005. Detroit and Jacksonville are each vying for their first MAAC league crown.
Tickets for the 2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship can be purchased in advance at www.TicketLeap.com or at the gate. All-session passes are available for $25. Single-session admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children and students.
The winner of the 2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will receive an automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. The Men's Lacrosse Selection Show will air at 9 p.m. on Sunday on ESPNU.
