Iona To Meet Redlands in NCAA Championship Play-In

Edison, NJ - Iona, the 2011 MAAC Water Polo Champions, will take on the University of Redlands in an NCAA Championship Play-In Match at the YMCA in Greenwich, Conn. on Saturday, May 7. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
Iona enters the contest with an overall record of 25-7 and the #20 spot in the latest CWPA National Rankings. The Gaels stormed through the MAAC regular season with a 10-0 record and then defeated St. Francis (NY) and Wagner at the MAAC Championship to earn the league's automatic qualifier.
Redlands, a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), has a record of 22-10. The Bulldogs finished second in the SCIAC, but upset top-seeded Occidental in the league title game, 7-6 in sudden victory overtime, to advance to the NCAA Championship.
Iona faced Redlands on March 19 as part of the Lancer Invitational. The Gaels won the contest 14-8 behind four-goal, one-assist efforts from both Maggie Wood and Cecilia Leonard. Redlands scored just two goals in the first half.
The winner will advance to face #1 Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Championship at 6 p.m. on May 13 at the University of Michigan. The complete bracket is available here.
