Siena Faces Detroit in MAAC Men's Lacrosse Final Sunday

Buffalo, N.Y. - Top-seeded Siena College will take on third-seeded University of Detroit Mercy in the title game of the 2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 8 at noon at the Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College.

Siena makes its third consecutive appearance in the title game, having previously won the MAAC crown in 2009. In the semifinals, the Saints earned an 18-8 victory over fourth-seeded Jacksonville University. Sophomore attack Danny Martinsen recorded five goals and one assist in the win, while freshman attack Colin Clive added five goals. Junior Tom Morr made 10 saves in goal for Siena.

In their second season in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse League, the Detroit Titans have reached the championship final after claiming a 9-8 win over second-seeded Marist College in the semifinals. Sophomore long stick midfielder Jordan Houtby scored the game winner just 13 seconds into the fourth quarter, the lone goal of the stanza. Houtby finished the night with two goals to his credit. Sophomore A.J. Levell anchored the Titans' defense, posting 13 saves between the pipes for his squad.

In their regular season matchup on April 2, Detroit took home a 13-11 victory over Siena in Loudonville, N.Y. Tied at 6-6 at halftime, the Titans outscored the Saints, 7-5, over the final two quarters to earn the win. Chris Names led Detroit with two goals and one assist on the day, while Levell finished with 16 saves. Martinsen paced Siena with four goals and one assist in the contest. Morr collected 15 saves in goal for the Saints.

The winner of the 2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will receive an automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Selection Show will air at 9 p.m. on Sunday on ESPNU.
